About Me!

Writing about myself is always so daunting. Do I say, "Hi my name is Melissa Borders?" or start with an informal salutation like, "Howdy?" I don't know. So all I'm going to do is welcome you to my blog and give you a quick update about my life. I grew up in Idaho and have been married to my amazing husband, Lyle, for 2 years now. My mom is from Thailand and that is where a lot of the inspiration for my cooking comes from. The funny thing is that she didn't know how to cook before she came to America and married my dad (who is just from the good ol' USA so his background isn't that thrilling). She had a maid growing up. My dad taught her basics out here and she taught herself the rest. She is one of the best cooks I know and there are many people who would tell you that. Our family has been growing a lot and I now have 4 parents, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, 1 niece, 3 nephews, 1 dog, 1 dog-in-law and 1 cat-in-law (yes, in-laws are included in those numbers). So now that you know more about my background, I'm going to pretend we are best friends. :)

We currently live in the Seattle, WA area. Can you say Food Lover's Paradise?! Oh, we could eat at a different restaurant every night for the rest of our lives. There are so many wonderful places to eat at and explore here. Lyle and I are real "foodies" and have had some of the most amazing dishes here in Washington.

A few years ago I earned a degree in Business Marketing and a minor in Culinary Arts. I'm not an expert in cooking, but it is one of my greatest passions. While i'm not the best, there are lots of things I do know and plenty that I will continue to learn. I make a lot of mistakes and sometimes those mistakes actually create something better than expected. If there is nothing else that my blog does for you, it should at least save you from making some of the mistakes I have made (except the excellent ones of course).

Food is something I have become very passionate about. Many of my family members are artistic. I have never had artistic talent as far as painting, drawing, etc. But I have found that food is a medium that inspires me and allows me to express myself artistically. It is such a fun medium to use. Through food you can appeal to all the senses of the body. Sight, sound, taste, touch, smell.......yummmmm, and the opportunities to be creative are endless.

Well, I think this is enough about me. So lets get to the cooking, shall we?
