Half Roses and Full-Roses

I have been avoiding real homework and thought I would share some pictures of my most recent piping. We just started learning roses last Thursday and had to turn in a performance test this morning featuring our new found skills. If any of you have any tips/advice for helping me to improve my piping skills, please share! I am still learning and just trying to get better and welcome constructive criticism.

I worked on this last night, and unfortunately, by the time I was working on my "full-blown roses" my hand was cramping up so badly. I probably did about 25 full roses before I got a few that looked decent, but I know I am capable of better, my hand just hurt sooooooo badly!

This picture basically shows all of the skills we were tested on.

This is my full-blown rose piped on a Hershey's kiss! I really liked piping on the kiss because it's a much firmer base than the frosting (even the really thick frosting). Often, my base would start to bend a little and panic would set in because I didn't want it to fall over!

The rose does need more practice, but I was pretty pleased with these especially since I finished at 11:00 last night after working on this test for an hour.

The two half roses in the middle are "alternative" roses. I'm really not sure how I feel about them, but one of my books teaches this method. It is definitely eye-catching. :)

Well, I guess I should probably study for my Culinary Nutrition test which is tomorrow. Yay, school!
